Real-time 3D designer Carlos Ulloa demoed one of his company’s creative iPhone and iPad apps, ‘helloflower’, at the Thinking Digital Conference.

“Out of all of the projects I’ve worked with, this one is the most creative”, he said.

New gaming app puts you and your camera against the clock

Titled ‘Appysnap’, the free app has a simple idea and great prizes.

Players are sent ‘missions’, where they are simply asked to take a photo of a particular item, place or theme within a set time limit.

Missions can be sent at any time of night or day. If a player completes the mission quickly, they can win iPads, Kindles and Amazon vouchers, as well as other incentives.

Apprentice teams enter the app market

(By ‘created’ we mean they came up with the brilliant ideas. The apps were made a reality by the leading development company Grapple.)

The winning app came from the girls team. AmpiApps featured a series of annoying sounds such as baby’s screams and animal shrieking. Of course they missed out on the most annoying sound of all – their own conversation.

New mobile games event launches in Gateshead

Angry Birds wins big at Appy Awards

angry_birds_appAngry Birds continued its domination of the app world by picking up two awards including ‘app of the year’ at a London ceremony.

The Finnish-designed app also collected the ‘best game app’ at the Appy Awards last night while Facebook won the ‘best time waster app’ and Spotify took the ‘best music app’.

Among the other winners across 10 categories was Google Maps, which was named the ‘best time saver app’.

Mobile yet to be fully embraced

2010 might have been the eagerly anticipated ‘year of the mobile’, but the huge potential of mobile technology is still being left untapped in the UK, says digital marketing specialist Simon Clayton.

“Mobile is still a small market in the UK”, Clayton told NMM.

In terms of tapping into the mobile potential, we’re a few years behind the US.

“Things are really tight at the moment and companies are focusing on what they consider to be the ‘most important’ things to invest in”, Clayton said.

“Search market and social media are prioritised to come first, mobile is lagging behind.”

New funding for North East m-commerce company

mobicartA mobile shop app-builder, MobiCart, has secured $500,000 new investment from the Finance for Business North East Angel Fund.

The North East company, which launched at the prestigious DEMO conference in Silicon Valley last year, helps online retailers create their own m-commerce apps using a simple tool.

CEO and founder Wladimir Baranoff-Rossine, a Sunderland University graduate, said the new investment will enable the company to make their vision for the mobile commerce a reality.
