Organised by the regional music development agency Generator, Music Futures conference debuts in the North East after a great success in Leeds earlier this year.

Digital music conference comes to Newcastle after phenomenal success in Leeds

A new North East digital music conference will give regional businesses access to some of the top minds in the industry.

The Music Futures conference, organised by the Generator, takes place at a time when the music industry is coping with constant change and challenges posed by the digital age.

But the challenges and ‘threats’ can also be an opportunity, says Damian Baetens, Generator’s business development director.

Digital innovations have broken the traditional gatekeeper role of record labels, enabling artists to go straight to the consumer.

“Now there’s an independent and direct route to market and online media is becoming a major factor of influence”, Damian said.

“Blogs are the new tastemakers, labels and brands see them as the touchstone.”

YouTube the focal point for music listeners online

Almost six in ten consumers had watched music videos on their computers in the last three months while less than 2 in 10 had bought a digital download in the same time.

Carphone Warehouse set to challenge Spotify

music_anywhere (1)Carphone Warehouse’s new music streaming service ‘Music Anywhere’ puts your song libraries in the cloud.

The new service allows users to access their entire collections whenever, wherever, regardless of the capacity of their MP3 player.

Using Catch Media’s Play Anywhere platform, the service scans users’ collections and matches it up with its own database. A digital copy of a track that can’t be found in the database is automatically created and added to the user’s online account.
