Apple overtakes Microsoft as iPads hit UK stores

green_apple (1)Apple has passed Microsoft in market value claiming its place as the biggest technology company in the world.

Changes in the share prices on Wednesday meant that Apple’s total value grew to $222bn, allowing it to leapfrog past Microsoft’s $219bn.

The Californian-based tech giant is now the second biggest company in the world, paling in comparison only to the oil giant ExxonMobil with a market value of $282bn.

Office 2010 launched – Microsoft takes on Google Docs

office2010Microsoft has rolled out Office 2010 for businesses, raising the stakes in its fight against Google.

The new suite comes with a range of free web tools, Office Web Apps, a move that acknowledges Google as a straightforward rival of the company.

Microsoft is still dominating the industry with a reported 81% of businesses running Office 2007. However, the emerging, free – or at least cheaper – web tools have forced the company to rethink their approach.

Microsoft IE9 promises a stack of new technologies

Microsoft and News Corp in talks over paid search listings

Microsoft brings ads to PC desktops

Microsoft has opened up its Windows 7 operating system to advertising, allowing brands to advertise on PC desktops, Telegraph reports.

The technology company has struck a series of deals with the likes of Porsche, Pepsi and Twentieth Century Fox, which will allow users to add the branding of each company on their desktop.
